How to Submit Your Required Skills Profile for Students

Submit a Skills Profile in NUcareers

  1. Log in to nucareers.northeastern.edu/students. This opens your Dashboard/Overview.
  2. Click on the red text banner “Create/update your required Skills Profile…” This takes you to the Skills Profile home page.
  3. Click the blue “Register” button for the period you wish to be working on co-op. This will open a blank Skills Profile form.
  4. Under “Profile Visibility” you are required to answer two questions: 1) Would you like to make your profile available to employers through the Digital Co-op Candidate Database?; Answering “Yes” to this question signals that you give permission for your profile answers to be seen by employers that you may not have submitted a job application to through NUcareers. 2) Do you want to auto-complete from a previous profile? If you previously submitted a Skills Profile, answering “Yes” to this question pulls in answers from that earlier submission so that you don’t have enter the same answers a second time.
  5. Under “Employment Interests” you are required to answer the question “Work Availability”; check the period of time you wish employers to know that you are available to work on your next co-op.
  6. Scroll down the rest of the form answering whichever of the remaining optional questions you think will serve to complete the Skills Profile you want employers to see. If a question has a long menu of possible answers, you can save menu-search-time by entering a keyword in the “Filter” box. This will allow you to quickly find a specific answer that you want to check in the menu.
  7. After responding to all of the questions you want to answer, click the blue “Next” button at the bottom of the form; this will take you to the final step – uploading a resume.
  8. Under “Upload Resume” click the blue “Upload a New File” button. Your prepared resume file must be in the pdf, doc, or docx
  9. Click the blue “Choose File” button, and select your resume file from where it is located on your computer. This will load the resume into NUcareers for submission, and the name of the resume file will appear as the “Current File:”
  10. Click the blue “Submit” button. This will save the resume as associated to the profile you just entered, confirm your profile as successfully submitted, and show you of all the saved answers you entered in response to the profile questions.
  11. Note that you can change any answer by clicking the Blue “Edit Profile” button at the top of the screen, which will take you back to Profile form in editable mode for any revisions you wish to make; click the blue “Save” button at the bottom of the form to save your Profile edits.
  12. You may also change the resume associated to the Profile by clicking the Blue “Manage Resume” button at the top of the screen; click “Upload New File” if you wish to replace your previously uploaded resume with a different one.
To proceed with your co-op job search, in the left navigation select “Job Postings / Applications”; this will take you to your co-op job search dashboard.

Framing your job search in NUcareers

  1. Log in to nucareers.northeastern.edu/students. This opens your Dashboard/Overview.
  2. Click the grey “Co-op Postings” banner. This will take you to the Co-op Job Postings / Applications search screen.
  3. Under “Quick Searches” notice what is checked for “Filter all searches by”. By default, the setting “Only show jobs for which I qualify” is checked; this means that your searches will render only jobs for which you meet the employer’s minimum GPA requirement and student-level requirement (undergraduate, graduate student, or both). If you uncheck this setting before executing a job search, your results will include jobs for which you do not qualify.  In this instance you will still be able to click the “View” button of a particular job to read the employer’s qualification requirements and description of the position, while not having an “Apply’ button to apply to the job.  Also under “Filter searches by” you will notice that by default “My Program” is not checked.  If you check this setting before executing a job search your results will include jobs that the employer did not specify for your major.  You can make your searches show only jobs that employers specified for your major by checking “For my program” before running any searches.

Accepting or declining automated (NUcareers communicated) co-op job offers

  1. Employers may contact you directly to extend an offer. They also have the option to use NUcareers to communicate offers to you automatically.   If the employer sets you as a hire for a particular job, an email notification will be sent to your Northeastern student email indicating that a pending offer is available to you for review from your NUcareers
  2. Log in to nucareers.northeastern.edu/students. This opens your Dashboard/Overview.
  3. Click the “Co-op Job Offers” tab. All pending offers are listed.  Read the any “Offer Notes” included by the employer, and other details pertaining to each offer.
  4. In the “Offer” column, note the time you have to respond to the offer by; this time will be two business days from the time that the employer extended the offer through NUcareers.
  5. In the “Offer” column, select “Decline” to notify the employer that you do not want the job if that is your choice. This will prompt you to a screen where you have the option to submit a reason for the decline into the system (the reason for the decline is not shown to the employer, only to your co-op faculty coordinator). This will also prompt you and the employer to be sent an email confirming the decline.
  6. In the “Offer” column, select “Accept” to notify the employer that you want the job if that is your choice. This will prompt you and the employer to be sent an email confirming acceptance.  Your employer and/or co-op faculty coordinator will then reach out to you to finalize any necessary arrangements for starting your co-op with the employer.
