Receiving close supervision\, the student builds skills and competencies related to their field of study through on the job training. Receives work of increasing technical involvement commensurate with their abilities. \nDepending on the assigned Department\, the Intern’s responsibilities may include: \nEstimating\n\nBasics: Understand how the estimating department works regarding bids and proposals. Review different types of bids.\nValue Engineering/ATCs (Alternative Technical Concepts): Finding better ways to do something for a project than what is originally planned.\nHCSS Basics and Strategies: Using HCSS (standard estimating software in the industry)\, understand how an estimate is set up in HCSS. Includes bid-terms\, activities and resources.\n\nField Engineering\n\nEngineering: Ensure work compliance with design drawings and identify change conditions and coordinate with designer of record.\nCommunication: Ensure there is internal coordination with Halmar staff\, subcontractors\, and labor force in the execution of work.\nAssist in estimating change orders\, drafting RFIs\, quality assurance\, and safety.\n\nProcurement\n\nReview proposals from subcontractors and vendors\, comparing scopes and exclusions.\nPrice Comparisons and Bid Levelling: Set up and input information into Bid Comparison Sheets to level scopes and prices and determine low bidders for trades.\nContract Terms and Conditions: Become familiar with what terms and conditions are incorporated into a construction contract.\n\nQualifications: University/college student who has completed a minimum of 1 year of study towards a degree in Civil Engineering\, Construction Management or related field.
