In-Person Interview Etiquette

How you present yourself in an interview often matters just as much or more than what you actually say about yourself. If you’re not dressed the part or listening attentively to what the interviewer has to say, you might fail to make a strong impression.

Arriving 10-15 minutes early for an in-person interview is reccomended.

Expectations around what is appropriate and professional attire differ across industries, companies, and interviewers. When in doubt, consider a more conservative style of dress like business casual or business professional rather than risking being underdressed. Visit Husky Closet to borrow an outfit, and reach out to Career Design for ideas.

Your interview behavior begins the moment you enter the building, with the receptionist, security, other candidates, and everyone you encounter. Be courteous and warm. Your interviewer will hear about your demeanor from multiple people.

Remember to turn your phone to silent. Taking a call or having your phone vibrate during an interview can be distracting.
