International Student Job Search: Key Resources, Strategies, and Talking About Work Eligibility
The job search is challenging for everyone right now, but as an international student, you’re navigating an additional layer of complexity. This workshop gives you the international student-specific resources and targeted strategies that general career advice misses. The biggest mistakes happen early. These missteps close doors before you even get to tell your story.
You’ll learn how and when to explain your visa status and work eligibility, how to think about your cultural and language strengths as value-added (not obstacles), and how to identify employers who have actually hired international students in the past-valuable information you can build on to learn what they are doing now. We’ll walk through the resources together—showing you where to find international student-specific resources, immigration attorney webinars on H-1B and other employment visas, how to use AI to identify professional organizations and companies that might value your cultural capital and align with your goals. You’ll leave with international-student specific resources and strategies to add to your toolkit, an action plan for next steps, and a mindset shift: leading with your strengths and resources, not your limitations.
This workshop is for international students who want to search strategically in a challenging landscape. Come ready to identify one action step you’ll explore and use right away.
