Using Your Network: Turning Past PositionsIntoCareer Opportunities

Mar 16 • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

You’ve already built a professional network, you just might not realize it yet. Every co-op supervisor, internship mentor, and research advisor you’ve worked with is someone who saw you in action and knows what you bring to a team. But most students never reach out to these people again, either because too much time has passed or they don’t know how to reconnect without it sounding like they’re only asking for a favor.
This workshop shows you how to turn those past positions into active career resources. We’ll cover what to say when you’re reaching out after months (or years) in ways that feel genuine rather than transactional, and how to rebuild relationships before you need something from them. You’ll see examples of outreach messages that work and ones that fall flat, practice crafting your own reconnection emails, and learn the difference between asking for a job outright (usually too much too soon) versus asking for advice or introductions that can lead somewhere. If you’re graduating and starting a job search, these connections already know your work so don’t let discomfort or uncertainty keep you from reaching out.
