Workplace Communication Essentials: Navigating Your First Professional Role
Your co-op or internship gave you a taste of professional environments, but full-time work is different. Mistakes don’t reset at the end of a semester, and the people you’re working with expect you to know communication norms that no one explicitly taught you. This workshop prepares you for the moments that define how colleagues and managers perceive you: how you ask for help without sounding lost, when to speak up in meetings versus when to observe, and how to frame requests so they’re taken seriously.
We’ll work through real workplace scenarios like asking your manager for clarification on an unclear assignment or introducing yourself to senior leadership. The goal isn’t to make you sound like someone you’re not;, it’s to help you communicate your needs, questions, and ideas in ways that build respect and get heard. If you’re starting a full-time role soon, these are the skills that determine whether you’re seen as someone with potential or someone who doesn’t quite get it yet.
