NU CareerConnect Conference: Reflect, Explore, Connect

Career Design is coming to Oakland! All students at our Oakland, CA campus are invited to join us for a week’s worth of career focused programming March 21st – 24th, followed by our NUCareer Connect Conference on Saturday, March 25th from 9:00AM – 3:00PM PST. 

 

March 21st – March 24th, all students are invited to join Career Design for a variety of career related programing and workshops with our career advisors. We hope that you will join us for these exciting in-person events on our Oakland campus!

 

Tuesday, March 21st

 

Wednesday, March 22nd

  • 1:00-3:00PM – Career Studio 
    • Meet 1-1 with a career coach to get your career questions answered in 20-minute sessions. Snacks provided!
  • 6:30-7:30PM – Building Your Brand Workshop
    • Building your brand to describe yourself is an ongoing process. Learn how to harness the power of LinkedIn and other media to maintain your personal identity while promoting your professional brand to your network and future employers. Get some LinkedIn advice and have dinner with us (provided)!

 

Thursday, March 23rd

  • 12:00-1:00PM – Lunch and Learn: Dismantling Imposter Syndrome
    •  Have you ever felt as though you did not deserve your success, recognition, or accolades despite your hard work? Chances are you are experiencing Imposter Syndrome. This is normal! Great minds like Albert Einstein and Maya Angelou have even experienced this crippling phenomenon. This workshop is designed to assist learners identify and dismantle Imposter Syndrome so that they can focus on reaching their full potential. Sandwiches will be provided!

Saturday, March 25th – NUCareer Connect Conference

This conference will feature multiple professional development sessions to choose from (see below), opportunities for networking with current professionals and Northeastern alumni, and an alumni panel to learn about the Northeastern experience and its impact on entering the professional world! Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

9:00AM-10:00AM: Check-in and Welcome Breakfast

10:00AM-11:00AM: Career Session 1 – Choose a breakout to attend.

  • Breakout 1 – Crafting your Professional Introduction
    • Professional Introductions are the gateway for so many conversations and networking opportunities. Join us to learn how you can naturally and confidently introduce yourself with your own personal style. Practice and get feedback and tips on your professional introduction from alumni and career coaches!
  • Breakout 2 – Finding Your Fit: What Major or Career Is Best For Me?
    • Not sure what major or career to choose? Learn a new way to think about this decision by using a challenge mindset! Participants will complete an assessment that will provide insight into what career paths might be a good fit.
  • Breakout 3 – Navigating Your NU Career Journey
    • Learn about opportunities and resources to help you navigate your career journey at Northeastern including co-op, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities.

11:00AM-12:00PM: Career Session 2 – Choose a breakout to attend.

  • Breakout 1 – Revising your Resume and Cover Letter
    • Want to get your resume and cover letter ready for future opportunities? Alumni and career coaches will be available to provide feedback and tips and answer your questions. Please bring your drafts!
  • Breakout 2 – Building Your Network: The Power of Informational Interviews
    • Most job opportunities come through relationships, not applying indiscriminately online. Networking in person, on social media, and via other platforms is vital. Learn how to build connections and advance your career goals using informational interviews and other tools and strategies.
  • Breakout 3 – Building Your Personal and Professional Brand
    • Building your brand to describe yourself is an ongoing process. Learn how to harness the power of LinkedIn and other media to maintain your personal identity while promoting your professional brand to your network and future employers.

12:00PM-1:30PM: Alumni Panel and Networking Luncheon

  • A panel of alumni will share their best advice on how to make the most out of your college experience. Following the panel, alums will be available to connect with you over lunch (provided).

1:30PM-3:00PM: LinkedIn Headshots and Profile Reviews

  • Get a professional LinkedIn Headshot to update your Profile. Career Coaches will be available to review and provide feedback on your LinkedIn Profiles.

1:30PM-3:00PM: Open Career Studio

  • Meet 1-1 with a career coach to get your career questions answered.
