We welcome qualified entry level Field Engineers and Student Interns to work at our Halmar Corporate office in Nanuet NY and project offices throughout the NYC metropolitan area.

Job Title: Field Engineer (Entry Level)
The entry-level civil engineer provides services on projects and acts as client’s representative in the field interacting with craft/superintendent, contractor and other external parties.

Assists in maintaining project schedule by monitoring project progress (field work, cost and schedule); coordinates activities.
Reviews design specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
Demonstrate knowledge in engineering principals, practice, and methods and the application to the contract.
Monitors the construction work and site to ensure compliance with applicable plans, specifications, standards, codes, regulations and requirements.
Assists in monitoring work and site for compliance with safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field.
0-1 year of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
AutoCAD skills

Job Title: Student Intern
While in the process of study towards a college degree (undergraduate or graduate level), the Student Intern typically works during the summer, but can also work during the academic year. Receiving close supervision, the student builds skills and competencies related to their field of study through on the job training. Receives work of increasing technical involvement commensurate with their abilities.
Depending on the assigned Department, the Intern’s responsibilities may include:
Estimating

Basics: Understand how the estimating department works regarding bids and proposals. Review different types of bids.
Value Engineering/ATCs (Alternative Technical Concepts): Finding better ways to do something for a project than what is originally planned.
HCSS Basics and Strategies: Using HCSS (standard estimating software in the industry), understand how an estimate is set up in HCSS. Includes bid-terms, activities and resources.

Field Engineering

Engineering: Ensure work compliance with design drawings and identify change conditions and coordinate with designer of record.
Communication: Ensure there is internal coordination with Halmar staff, subcontractors, and labor force in the execution of work.
Assist in estimating change orders, drafting RFIs, quality assurance, and safety.

Procurement

Review proposals from subcontractors and vendors, comparing scopes and exclusions.
Price Comparisons and Bid Levelling: Set up and input information into Bid Comparison Sheets to level scopes and prices and determine low bidders for trades.
Contract Terms and Conditions: Become familiar with what terms and conditions are incorporated into a construction contract.

Qualifications: University/college student who has completed a minimum of 1 year of study towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
